What is TPE?

TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) is a lightweight, recyclable, odorless material. Most private-label TPE mats use a double-layer construction — a dense base for support and a textured top for grip — in thicknesses of 4–8 mm. It contains no PVC and no harmful plasticizers.

What is PU / rubber?

A PU mat pairs a polyurethane top layer with a natural-rubber base. The result is exceptional grip, even when wet, which is why it dominates hot-yoga and premium studio lines. The trade-off is weight and a higher unit cost.

Cost and MOQ

TPE is more cost-efficient and friendlier to low MOQs (we start TPE at 100 pcs per design/color). PU/rubber carries a premium price and usually a higher minimum, so it suits established or premium lines.

Grip and use case

TPE gives reliable dry grip for everyday home and gym practice. PU/rubber is the choice for hot yoga, sweaty sessions and studios where slip is not an option.

If you are launching a new brand, TPE is the safer first product. Add a PU/rubber premium line once demand is proven.

Eco profile

TPE is recyclable and PVC-free. Natural rubber is renewable but not recyclable; PU is synthetic. For sustainability messaging, we can advise on recyclable TPE formulations.

Which should your brand choose?

• New brand / mass market: start with TPE — lower risk, lower cost.
• Premium studio line: PU/rubber for grip and positioning.

Why low MOQ matters

A 100-pcs start lets a new brand validate demand without a warehouse of inventory. You can test one color and size, read the market, then reorder what actually sells.

How to use a low MOQ well

Start with a single hero color, confirm quality with a 7-day sample, list it, and only scale once orders come in. Low MOQ turns a bet into an experiment.

Low MOQ is not lower quality — it is better production scheduling. We hold material stock so small runs stay efficient.

Common MOQ myths

• Lower MOQ ≠ lower quality. It reflects how we batch production.
• "No MOQ" usually means a trader reselling stock, not a real factory.
• MOQ is per design/color, so more variants raise the minimum.

United States: CA Prop 65 + 6P/7P

California's Prop 65 limits certain chemicals, and US buyers watch phthalate limits (the "6P/7P" list: DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP, DNOP and often DnHP). Mats must be free of these above threshold levels.

European Union: REACH

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) restricts Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC). Compliant materials are selected and tested so mats are safe for the EU market.

Factory vs trader

A factory owns production lines, tooling and QC. A trader sources from factories and resells — adding a margin and a layer of risk. Both can deliver, but a factory gives you direct pricing, faster sampling and real accountability.

Proof a real factory provides

• Business license with a manufacturing scope
• Facility photos and video — not just product shots
• Third-party audit reports (BSCI, SGS, ISO 9001)
• A live video-call factory tour on request

If a supplier refuses a live video tour or only sends stock photos, that is a red flag.

Red flags to avoid

• No facility video, or "can't show the floor for confidentiality"
• Vague answers about production process and capacity
• Prices that swing wildly with quantity
• No verifiable export track record

The common format is 1830 × 610 mm (about 72 × 24 in), with thickness from 4 to 8 mm for TPE and up to 12 mm for comfort lines.
